BOWLING SEASON

GREAT GATHERING ATTENDS WHAKATAXE CLUB'S OPENING Members of the local bowling fraternity gathered in full force 1 ns/t Saturday afternoon when the AVliakatane Club staged its official opening in glorious weather. Visitors were present from Opotiki, Taneat.ua and Te Puke and a thoroughly enjoyable p.l'temoon's play eventuated. Tlie president. Mr Les Littlejohn. addressing the assembled -.crowd said that the gathering augured very well for the forthcoming season. He paid a glowing tribute to the work of the greenkeepcr stating that the greens had never looked better. He then declared, ••the season open and to the accompaniment of applause Mrs Littlejohn drove the first jack down the green. Friendly games were the order of the day while once, again the ladies supplied; the welcome afternoon tea for which they are so well known.
