INVESTIGATION AMONG MAORIS
HOTELS AND BILLIARD SALOONS
Following tlie practice in bigger centres, police and manpower authorities joined forces on Thursday afternoon and made surprise visits to bars, lounges and billiard saloons in Whakalane and questioned members of the. public us to Ihcir obligations in regard to essential work. Sergeant M. J. Fnrrell (Wliakatane) and Mr A. Cordon (Maori liaison officer, liotorua) carried out tlie investigation which Avas chiefly, concerned with Maoris, 200 of whom are. needed for work at the Karapiro hydro-electric projcct.
