REPATRIATING SOLDIERS
AUSTRALIA AFTER LAST WAR <? Iln repatriating her soldiers avTio served in the last war, Australia spent £24,000,000 in provision of employment, vocational training., settling men on the land and in business, educating their children, medical treatment, maintenance of insti-i tutions and in many other Avays. In addition, pensions cost nearly £8,000 ;1 000 a year. At peak, 90,389 soldiers and 220,000 dependants Avere on charge. But the totals arc falling—children are groAving up and the soldiers are fading aAvay. Now soldiers from the latest Avar are coming into the returns. So far £8000 has been spent on repatriation, 1529 pensions haA'e. been granted representing an annual liability of £1 .">3,000.
