Mr and Mrs A. J. Canning, of King Street, have returned home after three weeks absence when they attended the 80th birthday party of Mr Canning's sister, Mrs J. L. Harwood of Palmerston North. The occasion was also a family reunion which drew no less than six of the original family of twelve.
After a complete tour of the East Coast in which he touched, the principal points of his electorate, Mr W. Sullivan, with Mrs Sullivan arrived home last Thursday evening. Mr Sullivan as M.P. for the Bay of Plenty, took a prominent part in the ceremony at Ruatoria when the V.C. was presented by the GovernorGeneral to the parents of the late Lieut. Ngarimu. They Avere also present at the opening of two Maori meeting houses by His Excellency at T'olaga and Tokomaru Bays which were accompanied by much colourful ceremonial spccchmaking and demonstrations. Mr Sulllivan throughout his tour was warmly greeted by his supporters, who joined their congratulations on his win with their enthusiasm for the. increased strength of the National Party as a result of the elections*.
