Avond'ale Stakes | Stakes to the value of £1000 have been arranged for the Avondalc. Jocj key Club's Second Spring Meeting at E'Uerslie on November 6. The principal event will be the King j George Handicap, of £1000, 1% miles. A new feature is the provision of a middle distance race for hacks, this being the Nihotupu Hack Handicap, of £100, one mile and three furlongs. A Trainer's Record During his fourteen years as the holder of a trainer's license L. G. I Morris, of Palmerston North, has saddled up no less than 309 winners. Three times he has be.cn third in the list of winning trainers. Sousa Improving Sousa, by Vaais —Queen March,, is one of the most improved gallopers atTaka nini, and is satisfying his trainer,, T. Verner. He belongs to a fine line, of winners., so it will not be at all surprising if he makes good. Has Furnished Nicely Among the Flying Handicap field at Paeroa was the Kincardine marc Llandine from Opotiki. This five year old marc, owned by Messrs Abbott Br is.,, of Opotiki, was looking especially bright and should soon be ready to take her place with honours in good company. Even Tempered Since his arrival in Australia from Wellington Dominate has been galloping well, aud his trainer F. Musgrave. is well satisfied with Ivim, and states he is one of the best, tempered horses he has ever had. The Ph.ale.ron Bay—Martial Lady four year old is in the Melbourne Cup with 7.8 and the Caulflcld Cup with 7.10. Deatli of Carnwath While travelling back to Ellcrslic after having run second to Beau Dink in the third division of. the Taumarunui Stakes at Paeroa on Saturday Carnwath ruptured a blood vessel and died. Carnwath was a promising three year old filly by Salmagundi from Strathallan and she had. had only three races. She was one of R. S. Bagby's team and had shoAvn an abundance of speed. A Remunerative Price Cherry Hunter, winner of the hurdles at Paeroa, is an aged bay gelding by Hunting Song—Cherry Girl, owned, by Mr 11. V. Lunkcn, and trained by M. B. Abbott., Opotiki. He was very confidently ridden by Jackson, and the resultant win dividend was over a third of a ccntury.
