ACCIDENT ON HILLCREST
MOTOR CYCLIST HITS TRUCK
Thrown high into the air when hi.s motor-cycle struck a heavy motor truck on the Ohope Road on Tuesday morning Mr Colin Williams, Power Board employee, residing at Ohope, suffered a compound fracture to the left leg, from which he is at present an inmate in the Whakatane Hospital, his 'Condition being .satisfactory.
Mr Williams was coming into town shortlj* before eight o'clock and just at the intersection of the old Ohope Road he met one of Brabant Brothers' Ltd's trucks which was proceeding up the hill from the gorge. Mr Geo. Furze, driver of the truck,, sighted Mr Williams in time to apply his brakes, so that. the truck was only far enough out on the road for Mr Williams to strike its bumper a glancing blow. Had he hit it broadside on the consequences might have been much more serious. As it. was the impact was enough to wreck the. motor-cycle and hurl him high into the air. He fell heavily to the ground but retained consciousness while awaiting attention.
