To Cool Tempers

Tired after hearing eighteen cases invovling family squabbles,, fights between belligerent parents, and similar "childish quarrels" in Coney Island Court in the course of a few hours, states the New York Times, the presiding magistrate prescribed digging in a Victory Garden to cool I overheated tempers. "If the people who come into the courts on these summons cases —most of whom belong in the category of infant intelligence—would spend the same time and energy in maintaining Victory Gardens," he said, "they would be making a genuine contribution to the war effort and public welfare. They would be too busy to become involved in childish quarrels."
