GARDENING CIRCLE

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE INTEREST

The September meeting of the Waimana-Nukuhou Women's Institute gardening circle was held, at the home of Mrs King. There was a very good attendance of members, who were presided over by Mrs John Addison. Mrs Cooper read the minutes of the previous meeting. Several interesting and instructive readings were given by Mrs Mitchell and Mrs Cooper, and Mrs WooTield had a gardening guide which solved a number of questions. Rockery plants and the making of a compost, heap were discussed. A competition arranged by Mrs King, was won by Mrs Heather 1, Mrs Wylde 2 and Mrs Wool field 3. Members then walked round the garden, and also joined in a treasure hunt, Mrs. Wylde locating the treasure. The competitions , were: Six best daffodils, Mrs J. Mitchell 1; Mrs ■ Stevenson 2. Three best daffodils, Mrs 'Mitchell 1; Mrs Stevenson 2f Mrs King 3. Best flower, Mrs W. Stevenson 1; Mrs King 2; Mrs Mitchell 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Mitchell 1; Mrs King 2; Mrs G. Mitchell 3.

Afternoon tea was. served by Mrs Mann'ion and Mrs J. Mitchell. Mrs Addison thanked Mrs King for the pleasant afternoon spent by all and Mrs Heather and Mrs Cranswick for judging the competitions.
