NEW PLAYING AREA

DOMAIN BOARD'S PLAN

iOROUGH .COUNCIL'S ATTITUDE

The suggestion by the YVhakatane Domain Hoard that the Borough Council should give some financia, assistance towards the establishment of a children's playing area in the Domain did not kindle that enthusiasm which the Board appaiently anticipated. The Mayor remarked that the town already possessed two such playgrounds —one at the Heads and the other in the children's park. It was the Domain Board's property in any case. Cr Canning suggested a public collection would realise all the money required. Cr Shapley saw the wisdom ol putting up some playing apparatus there but said, he realised the council's position with regard to expenditure ol' funds. He hoped nevertheless that the fullest co-operation would be given the Board in its undertaking. It was agreed to write stating that .he council could not see its way clear towards making a donation but. would be prepared to assist.
