An unusual case im'olving the driver of a taxi who failed to notu'v an injury sustained by one of his passengers as a result of an accident Avas heard before Mr E. L. Walton in the. Whakatane Court, last Tuesday when Roland S. Webb ay as proceeded against.
Constable Thom, from the box read a statement made by the de-. fendant when interviewed, in whiela Webb said that lie Avas driving a load of passengers back to the Matata camp and approaching' the Tarawera bridge lie noticed, a number of cattle at large on the road. It was a misty night and on one of theapproaches he .suddenly came upon a beast right in the middle of the road. He had swerved suddenly and the rear of his car struck a pole. Thei live passengers were tliroAvn about but he had asked If anyone was hurt and had a reply in the negative. He delivered the men to the camp Avliere they again all declared the-mselves unhurt.. Later he had noticed the power lines down as a result of the impact and had also learnt that oßoof his passengers had proceeded to the Whakatane Hospital as a result of a slight injury. Fined £2 and costs 225.
