Before Mr E. "L. Walton, S.M. in the Whakatanc Magistrate's Coux-t last Tuesday a number of traffic offender? were dealt with, at the instigation of both the Transport Department and also the County Inspector. G . Riddell (Mr Barry) was charged with operating a heavy motor vehicle on July 17 last "with a load in excess of that permitted by law.

Air Hamerton who appeared for tlie prosecution instituted by the. Whakatane County Council, said that the 'bus owned by the defendant was driven by one Tui Webb, and was licensed to carry 20 passengers or alternatively 40 children. On this occasion there were 13 passengers including <) adults. Mr Barry explained that the defendant was doing his best to get an extra bus and was forced at times to take more than he was entitled. to. The County Council was well aware of the position. Fined 20.s and costs 335.
