LABOUR'S ACTIVITIES
MR W. JONASEN'S CAMPAIGN
Mr \V. \Y. Jonasen, Labour candidate lor Bay of Plenty, paid; a visit to Matawai. To Wcra, Rakaroa, Motu and Motuhora during the week end. On Saturday night Mr Jona.son addressed a large gathering in tlie public hall at Matawai. Mr W. Clark presided and the candidate gave an instructive" and inspiring address on political affairs. Detailed attention was given to the Servicemens Land Bill. The question of giving a full and complete med.teal service to the hill country electors was explained and at the conclusion, on the. motion of Mr Baird, and seconded by Mr Gate, a vote of thanks was recorded by acclamation. A similar tribute Avas extended to tlxc chair on the motion of Mr Jonasen. Ormond 1 Gathering A very successful card and social evening was held in the. Ormond Hall last Friday evening to augment the funds - for the Labour Party's campaign. The good attendance and response to the call for funds was most heartening. At the conclusion of cards Mr W. W. Jonasen, the. Labour candidate for Bay of Plenty., gave a short address and received a most attentive hearing. Mr Jonasen described the major wor'ks of the Labour Government and the New Order as he hoped to see it, and spoke of the great future ahead for the Returned Soldier when the world was at peace again. The evening concluded with a very nice supper and plans- for further evenings at the same place at an earlj" date. MR D. A. HILL'S CAMPAIGN MEETING AT OMOKOROA There was a lively meeting at Omokoroa last Thursday evening when Mr D. -A. Hill, Labour candidate for Tauranga. addressed about .30 people mostly farmers in the Nicholas' Hall. After the candidate had been speak ing a short time, the numerous interje.etors agreed to listen attentively until the conclusion when opportunity was given for questions of every description which were answered to the satisfaction of the audience. Jn answer to a question as tci whether the Services Settlement and Land Sales Bill did. away with gifts from father to son or the right of inheritance Mr Hill emphatically denied that such was the case. He produced a copy of the Bill to prove his statement and gave a list of exemptions under tlie Act in which this was included. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the speaker which was heartily endorsed by the audience and many of those present remained afterwards to meet tlies peaker on friendlv terms.
