MR AND MRS A. K. BELL AND FAMILY FAREWELLED The Waimana Hall wa s filled tocapacity last Thursday evening, with friends of Mr and Mrs; A. K. Bell and family, who gathered at a dance to hid them farewell. JNf<r Bell lias been headmaster at ther Waimana School for a number of years and will he greatly missed, by all, as.he had won the love and affection of all tile pupils. Mrs, Be;'L ■ was always ready to give assistance to pupils, teaching staff and any. who was in need. Both Mr and Mrs Bell will be greatly missed, from Waimana. The music for dancing was played by tlie Casa. Loma orchestra and tlie novelty dances were most popular. Mr !{. Morton was doorkeeper. After a dainty supper had been served, Mr T. Ward law on behalf of the sporting bodies, the Tennis Club, Cricket Club, etc. slated liow • Mr Bell had always taken a most active part in a'U sports., being anexcellent secretary and keen player and real sport. Mr N. J. C. Macdonald tl'ren called, on Mr J?cll' to accept a framed photograph of the officers of the Waimana Homo Guard, and wished! lie and Mrs Bell and family every success in their new home at Horsham Downs. Mr Macdonald spoke of the great amount of work done and interest Mr Bell had always taken' v\v tire Homo Guard. Mr 11. A. Ward law, on behalf of the School Committee and the residents of Waimana and Xwikuiilroif, presented Mr and Mrs Bell with a wallet and its. contents, wishing them the best of luck and success in the future. Mr R. Morton, on behalf of the Golf Club,, presented Mr Bell -with the "Morton Cup" which he had) won recently at. the Waimain.a Gof Club, thes peaker congratulated Mr Belli on his success. Mr Morton also spoke of the great interest Mr Bell had always taken in football and said he would be hard 1 to> replace in all walks of lifeMr Bell in a most capable maiy ner thanked all, on behalf of Mrs Belli and family for the splendlct evening, gifts and kindnesses; tendered which were greatly appreciated. Mr Bell' said they wouicft take many happy memories witl* them of the time spent in Waimana.. Dancing continued until a late* hour, when the evening closed with? the singing of "Aukl Lang Sync" and the National Anthem. • GARDENING CIRCLE The August meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women's Institutegardening circle was held at the home of Mrs M. Mannion, W aimana. There was a very good attendanceof members, which'was presided over by Mrs John Addison. Mrs Cooper read the minutes of the previous meeting. Mrs Addison read a most interesting and instructive articleon the growing of vegetables, etc. that thrive best under the conditions that are most suitable- for certain types. A competition arranged"* by "Mrs Mannion, was won by Mrs Stevenson Wylde 2, and Mrs. fving and Mrs Hughes tied lor o. Plants were brought for distribn-» tion among members by Mrs S't'ev-* enson. The competitions were: Bowl of spring llowers arranged' tor effect,* Mrs Stevenson 1; Mrs Woollield 2; Mrs Wylde 3. Best flower, Mr Wylde* 1; Mrs StevcßSoais 2?: Mrs Mansion. 3*. Best vegetable, Mrs Wy'lde 1: Mrsr _ Hughes 2. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs !G. Mitchell and Mrs Hughes. Mrs Addison _ thanked Mrs Mannion for the pleasant afternoon and Mrs McCouncil for acting as judge.
