SAVING RUBBER
MILKING MACHINE INFLATIONS DAI 11Y 0 EE!CEII' S EX PER I MENTS In the-course of his annual report last Wednesday Mr E. S. Hodon, bacteriologist to the Rangitaiki Dairy Company Ltd,, made the. following interesting comment on a newly discovered process for rejuvenating rubber. "At a Dairy Science Conference at Massey College I saw a verj* interesting demonstration of rejuvenating rubber inflations. The inQa.-. tions were placed in a glass vessel containing a solution of one teaspoonful of sodium metasi'licate and four teaspoons of caustic soda dissolved in approximately a quart of water and kept at nearly boiling point for .several hours. A large amount of fat and dirt was removed and the inflations, were very much improved and could, be used again. This treatment can be carried dout on the farm but trials will be made in the. laboratory to see if it would be possible to treat them there especially if the supplier had a duplicate set of inflations. This will not of course be of use in cracked inflations."
