LABOUR'S CAMPAIGN

THE TAURANGA ELECTORATE At his meeting at Opal Springs near M.atamata on Tuesday evening, Mr D. A. Hill. Labour candidate for the coming elections, gave a good account of Labour's .legislation, particularly in relation to farming and, farmers problems. X'n introducing himself, Mr Hill stated that he caine of pioneering fanning stock, his great-grandfather being a farmer. He stated that, he also has a good idea of the workers viewpoint because in his youth he left the farm for awhile and worked as a labourer in Queensland, and later New Zealand. Mr Hill outlined New Zealand's splendid war effort, and the Govplan for rehabilitation of returned soldiers. He then dealt with the Land Sales and Services Settlement Bill and the guaranteed price and Internal Marketing. The farmers, he. said, were fortunate in having a scheme such as this to stableise their industry. He paid a tribute to Mr Nash whose clear brilliant brain had conceived and worked out the plan of the guaranteed. pricc and marketing of produce. Mr Hill then dealt briefly with the benefits of Social Security, and the State Advances Housing Scheme. No country in the world could boast such legislation, lie said, and New Zealand was the first country to Introduce debt free advances, lrom a State, bank to build homes for the people. Several questions were asked and the meeting concluded'with a vote of thanks to the speaker.
