COMING OF AGE

; HAPPY EDGECUMBE GATHERING : A very pleasant, coming of age • party took place on Thursday even- ; ing 19th August. The guest of the evening being Mr S. Mclvor Bell, elder son of Mr and Mrs E. Ai Bell of Gow's Road,, Edgecumbe. A ; picture party and after picture supper at the Monte Carlo Lounge was the form of this very jolly evening. Mr Bert Cooper, of Auckland, an old friend of the family, made a very capable toastmaster and his subsequent toast to the guest of the evening was filled with good wishes, sound advice and very good wit. After having partaken of a very delectable supper, the birthday cake was cut and handed round, by the guest of the evening and his health, drunk with the singing of, "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." Mr 'Mac* Bell responded, "in a very neat little speech thanking everyone for coming a!ong and making the party so pleasant. He also thanked his parents for their care throughout the years. Mr E. A. Bell then presented his son with an outsize key which was later autographed by the guests. Mr W. Ken yon proposed the toast of the host and hostess, Mr Bell suitably responding. Being the | first party held in the new Monte 1 Carlo Lounge a toast was drunk to the .success of its proprietors. A very happy evening closed with singing of "Auld Lang Syne." Among those present were: Mr > and Mrs E. A. Bell, Mr and; Mrs B. Cooper (Auckland),, Mr and Mrs W. Kenyon, Mr and, Mrs V. O. Lattimore, Mr and Mrs J. Litt, Mr and Mrs J. Dennis, Mr and Mrs D. McCorquindale, Miss E. Baird. Misses Jean and Dsobel Murray, Miss Marjorie Gow„ Miss Alison Gow, Mr R. Cleland, Mr B. H. BelL Mr S. M. Bell» was the recipient of many useful and valuable gifts also a number of cheques and telegrams.
