Country Rubber Workers
A pica to the Government to assist retread rubber workers in country towns, was made by Mr W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., when speaking in the House of Representatives. Mr Broadfoot said that the. men who did vulcanising work in the country towns handled rubber boots and, the Like, and they had been refused supplies to enable them to continue their work. The Department had suggested that .such repair work should be sent to Auckland. That was an entirely wrong stand to take up. Why concentrate trade in the big cities all the time? Supplies of rubber should be made available to the men in the country, so that there would be less waste of time and expense in railage, and 'less cluttering up of the railway transport. What were the vulcanisers in the country towns to do if the work was being continually sent away from them?
