CRICKET AND BASKETBALL CLUBS BOROUGH COUNCIL'S INTEREST Letters urging the Borough Council to erect much-needed accommodation on the Domain were read at lastt Monday's meeting from; the Whakatane Cricket and Basketball Clubs. The letters claimed that an accommodation .shetl, for dressing and for storing materials was essential to the success of all games, and the Cricket Club would welcome it as a store place for their equipment. Cr Sullivan drew attention to the large shccl at Rotorua which lie understood, was being offered for safe by the P.W.D. The Mayor (Mr B. S. Barry) mentioned the Queen Carnival which had been dropped at the commencement of the Avar and which had. succeeded hi raising a fairly substantial sum for the purpose of improving. the domain. Cr Armstrong suggested boarding up the Band Rotunda temporarily. Cr Canning: I'd he against that. It would spoil the whole look of it. Cr Armstrong: When is it ever used ? Cr Canning: I don't kno\v about that but I can. tell you that it will be uSod this coming summer. That is one of the things the Boys Band is going to do. In the general discussion which followed councillors agreed, that buildings on public domains were always the subject of abuse by thoughtless young people. However they would be prepared to do something for the sports bodies concerned and the clerk was instructed to get in touch with the P.W.D. to see if the. shed mentioned by Cr Sullivan Avas available.
