OTAKIRI MEETING The Otakiri Women's Institute held its meeting in the Ota!kiri Hall,/ on Thursday, August 5. Mrs. Arm- V_ strong presided over a good attendance. After; the* routine business r Mrs V. Peck gave, an interesting and ' instructive report of the conference . held in Gisborne in July, ajfitflr • which a debate took place, the sub-r - ject being "That women should l stand for Parliament." The affirms > tive was taken by Mesdames W. J. and G. J. Murray, and the negative hy Mesdames Armstrong and Cristall. The affirmative won on a 'popular vote, and the whole debate proved very amusing. It was followed by the roll call "Women's ideas on women entering politics;" which was well responded to. Afternoon tea was then served by Mesdaines Missen and M. Woodberry. The competition winners; were:— Marmalade: Mrs A. Smith 1; Mrs Armstrong 2; Mrs Missen 3. Scones: Mrs G. Murray 1; Mrs. Armstrong 2: Mrs Cobden 3. Best flower: Mrs Smith 1; Mrs Armstrong 2; Mrs A. Woodberry 3. Best vegetable: Mrs [ Armstrong 1; Mrs Peck 2; Mrs Armstrong 3.
