ARDGOWAN AYRSHIRES The third dannual sale of Mr J. G. Donald's Ardgowan Ayrshire cattle held at Ardgowan,, Featlierston, on Thursday, 22nd July, attracted buyers from all parts of the Dominion and a record sale resulted. 20 rising yearling bulls making the phenomenal price of 100% guineas. In two instances record prices were paid for individual animals. Comparatively the heifers did not sell so well as the bulls but the 43 lots produced a total of £2934 15s,i an average of 65 guineas per head. All of the bulls were sired by the. Scotch importations, Har.leyholm Topsman and Nethcrton Mahmoud. seven of the eight three-figure bulls being sired by the former bull. The two top priced animals, lioweveir,, while both sons of Harleyholm Topsman Ave re. out of daughters of Netherton Mahmoud, The auctioneers, Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd., report that the first bull to realise a record price of 240 guineas Avas Ardgowan Coastal Command which Avas purchased' by Mr S. Wright,, Aongatete, Kati Kati. This Avas a magnificent type of show bull and should deA'elop into a great sire. Mr G. McL. Wallace, of Mangere, Auckland, paid a similar price for Ardgowan Royal Command. Although a smaller bull this animal showed outstanding quality and. promises to deA'elop also into a bull of the highest class. Mr C. Cameron, Taieri, paid 120 guineas for ArdgoAA'an Liberator; Mr J. Legg, Leeston, Canterbury, 125 guineas for Ardgowan Bomber Command; Mr Ken Davis, Whangarei,, 105 guineas for Ardgowan Royal Victor; Mr A. S. James, Otautau, 110 guineas for Ardgowan Topmost; Messrs Palmer Bros., Gcraldinc, 100 guineas lor Ardgowan. Fighter Command; Messrs Allan Donald Ltd., Featlierston, 120 guineas for Greenring Montrose. The top price for rising yearling heifers, 23 of which averaged 34, V. guineas, Averc—6o guncais paid by Mr C. M. Bartlett, Palmerston North, for ArdgoAvan Golden Locket; 50 guineas by Mr S. Wright, for Ardgowan Starmist 3rd; and 4/% guineas for Ardgowan Modest Maid, 42% guineas for Ardgowan Grace : Moore 2nd by Mr C. Parker, Pahiatua; 42 1 /i guineas' for Ardgowan Wild Flower by Mr P. Be\"erley, Matamata; and 40 guineas for Ardgowan LoA r ecall by A. J. Nimmo. > Featlierston.
