THE "GOOD ENDEAVOUR" LEAGUE FOR YOUNG READERS ONLY

What ho. Avhat ho, nut hearties. 1 Shiver me timbers, this i.s cold dam]) 1 weather. I never thought I'd I'eel it sola uch, but there you are. ] : must be getting old. Funny thing no one ever seems to think that, they are getting on until they find they just can't keep going like they used J to. How I remember when 1 was a 1 young chap, looking at an old. lady 1 of 83 years, and "wondering if I ' ■would ever become as old. as she. 1 thought it. quite impossible but now I'm not .so sure. Anyway, its quite pleasant in many ways getting old. One 'sees the new boys . and girls growing up from babyhood, into young men and young ( women, and its quite interesting .saying to yourself 'Hm, I'll bet. she'll be. a young demon!' or else 'Alia, that young chap will make good,' or again 'He's a young larrikin. He'll give the world a spot of bother or two.' But its surprising how many turn out just the opposite to what you expect. Now look at me. Ive heard my father tell me dozens of times, that I'd come to a 'sticky end.' Well look at. me now —a kindly, white-haired old man, with nothing but goodness in my heart. Ah-mn-m. Well, that's how I feel at any rate. So now you can .see that growing old leaves plenty ol room for adjustments eli. Cheerio till next week. Your old friend Peter the Whaler,
