ANNUAL MEETING

WORK 'DU RIXG YEA R

The 17th annual meeting of the Wha'katane brunch of the New Zealand Plunket Society was held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday last, 28th July, at 2.:iQ p.m. The May-; orc.ss, Mrs B. S. Barry, presided and among" those present were Mesdames JL. Spring, S. Shapley* C. Suckling, C. Zinsii,, Crozier, H. Morgan, L. King, K. Runciman, Timbs (Senr), D. Pearce, C. Caisley, Kingsley-Smith, Kendall and R. Morpeth (hon. secretary). Apologies were received from Mesdames DarvlM, Dainton, P. Sisam, J. Part-, ridge, A. Fisher, G. Wallace, L. Lux ton and M. D. Cairns. In her report the president, Mrs,, M. D. Cairns, said that the health, of the mothers and babies had been satisfactory and the committee l congratulated Nurse .Armstrong on her excellent care and attention. President's Report In April last year a children's party was promoted which was a great success, contributing £5 18s to the funds. Although the weather Avas bad on. the night of the picture benefit August 26th, the theatre was well fulled and the society's share of the proceeds amounted to £15. From the stall and very successful street collection on 23rd October netted £54 while the proceeds from the concert held in December amounted to £32. To complete a successful financial year a garden party was held at Mrs Eggers' residence in March, from which was received the sum of £15. Owing to the fact that there* was a very small committee 1 thispast financial year, it had been accessary to enlist the aid of other helpers and in this connection she wished to sincerely thank those who so willingly gave their time and assitance to the various functions, also "those who sent produce etc. for stall and garden party. The speaker extended thanks to Mrs Miller for loan of. crockery, Mr Rigden for for efforts in organising the concert and Mrs Eggers for the use of her garden. Mr Suckling who has been the treasurer over a number of years, Mr Good and others who have assisted from time to time. She also thanked members, of the committee l.or their work and help throughout the. year. Small Committee Mrs Cairns added that the committer for the past year had been small in numbers, but.' despite this fact the Society's position has been wePl maintained. The disappointment at the attendance at the annual meeting but added that this was perhaps affected by the activi- . tics of the local ladies in connection with welcome home functions held in the same week. The secretary advised that Misls M. Buddie (Dental! Nurse) would 1 like to see more children of pre school age attending the clinic. The election of officers resulted* as follows: — President: Mrs M. D. Cairns (re- * e leeted). Vice-presidents: Mesdames Caisley, Lux ton, Kendall, Runeiman. Hon. vice-presidents: Mesdames Buddie, Barry,, Sullivan, Sutcliife, Suckling and Cutler. Hoii. Secretary: Mrs R. Mbrpetli. Hon. Treasurer: Mr C. A. Suckling. Hon. Auditor: Mr G. W. Good. Hon. Solicitor: Mr L. Buddie. Advisory Board: Drs Appleby, Dawson, and Cole. Messrs W. StaJlivan and L. Buddie. Committee: .Mesdames L. Spring, C. Zinsli, S. Shapley, P. Sisaua, L. King,, H. Morgan, Dainton, F.. Dar- , vill, Crozier, Timbs (Sear)!, ; sley-Smith. Nurse's Report in her annual report Nurse E. Armstrong stated that the general health of the mothers and babies had been very satisfactory. There had been the usual seasonal upsets. 1 The attendance at the rooms at - headquarters and outstations had. been good.
