OBITUARY

MRS F. J. HAYWARD

With the sudden passing of Mrs F. J. Hay ward last Tuesday morning,, Taneatua looses one of its oldest and most highly respected residents. Prior to taking up her residence permanently in Taneatua in 191(5, Mrs Havward lived with, her husband and family in Waingarara. AVhilst there her home was one where travellers, to and from Opo-. tiki and Whakatane could always count on her hospitality. After the family's removal to Taneatua Mrs Hay ward's warm generous nature prevailed and her passing will he keenly felt in the district. She was a lil'e member of the Taneatua Croquet Club and at the time of. her passing was a member also of both the Women's Institute and. Women's Division ol' the Farmers' Union. At the A. and P. Show's Mrs Hayward's, name was always prominent on the prize lists until failing health compelled her to give up show work. The. large representative gathering at the graveside on Thursday and the beautiful lloral tributes, signified to the popularity and re-? spect in w,hich she was held, and the sympathy of the people of Taneatua goes out. to her husband and family of seven sons and four daughters who are left to mourn their loss; and especially to her son Sajiper Phil Hay ward, who only returned from the Mkldle Fast a week prior to his mother's death. REV. R. MORGAN The death occurred, suddenly at Tokaanu, near Taupo, of the Rev. R M.organ, late of Opotiki. He died as his wished, "still in harness." He was in charge, of the Tokaanu Mission Station, and was aged 73 years. Mr Morgan was a Presbyterian minister and retired at the age of 65. He was very devoted to the Maori people and after retiring again took up active, work as a Maori Missioner to the Prsbyterian Church. He worked at the Opotiki Maori Mission for about four years and endeared himself to the people amongst whom he came in contact. Mr Morgan is survived by his w r ife, one. daughter, Sister Nessie Morgan, now in war work in Well-; ington, and four sons, one of whom is in the Air Force. Deceased, was a noted athlete in his younger days and the members of his family show prowess on the athletic field. The funeral took place at Taupo, and. was conducted by the. Rev. A. C. Hampton, of Opotiki, assisted by Rev. Starnes and the Rev. H. Hogg, of Whakatane.
