CONVALESCENT AMERICAN SOLDIERS
ON Monday next twelve convalescent American servicemen will arrive in Whakatane where they will be accommodated in the homes of residents who have already signified their willingness to do so through the local branch of the Red Cross Society. The main object in view is to give the men that touch of home: life which means so much to them and which will probably hasten their recovery far more thanthe finest treatment in the best military hospitals. It is hoped that Whakatane will live up to its reputation and provide these men not with entertainment of an enthusiastic, boisterous nature, but with picnic trifcs to Ohope and other beauty spots, fishing excursions and social gatherings of a quieter type which will have due regard for their state of health. In this respect we suggest that a limited benzine allowance should be made available for those willing to assist.
