While running a round of the big fences at Trentham, he sustained, a slight rick, and is to be allotted a few weeks spell. It. may be expected that on October 25 he will line up for the Waikato Hunt Club Cup at Cambridge, an event won by him in a truly convincing manner last Labour Day.
ANOTHER SALE Mr T* H. Coleman,, of Wellington, has sold the. imported horse. Parchment, by Papyrus to Mr E. B. Rawlings, of Otago. BLACK ROBE CHANGES HANDS Black Robe, third to Whackie and Autolitc in the Stewards.' Handicap at Trentham, changed • hands last week, trainer-owner A. E. Neale selling her to. Mr A. E. Scholes. She will now be trained by C. Thompson at Awapuni, POPULAR HUNT FIXATURE The Pa'kuranga Hunt Club will hold its meeting at Eller.slie on August 21. The Admiralty Handicap, of six furlongs, will carry a stake of £-100. TONGUE OVER THE BIT Rich Blood was Ave 11 in the boom for his-engagement at the Welling.ton meeting. To the consternation of his numerous backers he "was seen to fall back at the seven furlong post, and. then drift further and further back. It later transpired that he had got his tongue over the bit, badly bruising it in the process. Truly backers have still much to contend with in the gamble for winners. A WINNING FAMILY Fiddler's Green, who ran second in the Wellington Parliamentary Handicap- -was bred by Mr T. H. Lowry, of Okawa, and "was sold at the 1940' National Sales to Mr J. Owen, of Wairoa, lor 130gns. The filly is by Tiderace from Slackline by Night Raid—Miss Hook, descending from Lady Gertrude. Her halfsister, Lady Primrose, won the Gimcrack Stakes at Randwidk, and the Mimosa Stakes at Flemington. A SERIOUS INJURY Tlve Hawke's Baj' Steeplechaser,, Golden Memory, had the misfortune to slip a stifle when competing at the Wellington meeting, thus adding to the list ol' casualties of this winter's meetings. It is stated, the Gainseourt —Peep o' Day gelding will be unable to race again. A QUICK RETURN Just a few days before the Wellington meeting an Empire City sportsman purchased Colonel Rouge from Messrs Hazlctt Bros, ol Dunedin. The new owner side-stepped the hitherto stable companions, Noko and Spendthrift at Trentham, but lined the horse up at the Manawatu Hunt Club meeting, and won the principal steeplechase. Thus Colonel Rouge 'made his owner a quick return of the purchase money.
