CONCRETE SHIPS
IMPROVEMENTS MADE Concrete' ships built during the last Avar were not a great success. I)ut experiments in the United States Indicate that improvements arc being made, and a new type ol', concrete vessel was launched recently. This ship,, it appears, is the forerunner of similar vessels to be built on a large scale. She was designed by Vladimir Yourkcvitcli, who was responsible for the hull of the Normandie, and. is. 91 ft (Jin long and lift broad, Avith a draught of sft 9iii and an average speed, it is hoped, of IVz knots. The larger ships proposed avill be 210 ft long and will carry more than 2000 tons; of cargo.
