Cattle Saved About (JOG cattle which were on the island below the Waioeka Bridge were in serious danger of being drowned on Monday morning" when the river commenced to rise rapidly. Good work was. done by Mr Charlie Metai ay ho swam his horse across to the island at 4 a.m. and worked for over four hours to get the cattle across the river. By 8.:j() a..in. all the cattle were safely across, only two being lost, and soon afterwards the island was well covered with flood waters.
