Future Maori Mothers "I was tiiere when at the presentation of the Victoria Cross to the relatives of the late Moana-nui a Iviwa Ngarimu, Sir Apirana Ngata eel. to the Prime Minister, Mr Peter Fraser like this: "Look at all these bright-ej'ccl young Maori maidens', doing the haka of wclcomc to you. You ask for population! Yet you take all our youngest and best into the 1 Armed Forces. They are the best mothers of the future yet you .say you need them to help the Avar effort. For goodness sake send them all back home and let them get on with the job!" Mr W. Sullivan when addressing the Chamber of Commerce last Thursday evening. Our Great Vacant Spaces' "'When one. sees the great areas on the East Coast which are simply going to waste, one realises that there is a crying need for population in this country," said Mr W. Sullivan, M.P.„ when addressing the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce last Thursdaj r evening. "In New Zealand there are but to the square mile; "in Australia only 2 and in Canada only 3. In Great Britain by way of comparison there arc 468 to the square mile and in the Ifrish Free State l 112!
