NOW IN OPEN CLASS Platform, winner ol the Southland Champion Hack Handicap,, is looked upon as a likely successful performer in the open class. At his second start in this department lie won the Dunedin Jockey Club Provincial Handicap, defeating among others the good handicap performers Kevin and Bashful Lady. On pedigree lines he should rank high as a racehorse., being, by Night Raid from Rairform by Boniform. from Satisfaire by Birkenhead from Content by Dreadnought. Platform is' a halfbrother to Some Form, Rin Tin Tin, Charmainc, Tauranui, Passfarm and Dash o' Dublin. ALWAYS WELL PLACED The Ngarua owned but New Plymouth trained NobleFForx r was victorious at the Hawke's Bay meeting. This Foxbridge—Lady Lu representative has won numerous races in his three seasons on the turf, and has been decidedly we-ll placed throughout. PARLIAMENTARY HANDICAP Hawke's- Bay will be represented in the Parliamentary Handicap on Saturday by Rakanui and Centrepoise. The latter won the event, last year' by a narrow margin l'rom Rakanui,, who however, is more forward in condition than last year's victor. RISING TWO YEAR OLDS At Hastings there are no less than 30 rising two year olds undergoing their preliminary education on the tracks. In the meantime the; pick of the lot is Mr Peter Louis' chestnut colt by Battle Song—Chief Awa one of the highest priced lots at the last National Sale. SOME SING FOR WELLINGTON The Southland owner-trainer, J. Graham, has sold his galloper, Some Sing,j to a Wellington sportsfman for £300. This mare will go into the Trentham stable presided over by Percy Burgess. TAKANINI CANDIDATES Of Fred Smith's team at Takanini those indulged in a winter spell are Representative, Kentish, Royal Merit,, Beau Vaals, Cornish, Cambria and Jeff. Route March, Balfron and Beau Dink are in light work in view of spring racing.
BACK IN THE QAME Alter being many weeks a patient in the Auckland hospital the. New Plymouth trainer, H. Dulieu, has returned to take charge of. his big team, which during his absence were under the supervision of J. T. Jamieson, of High Caste fame. OF HIGH RANK The Coronach —Snowfield colt,, secured at the National Sale in Jan* uary for Mr W. S. Goosman, M.P., is furnishing in fine style at Takanini. He is such a well grown type of equine that he will! not be hurried even, in his preliminary work, and may not be. seen out. as a two year old performer. As Corona-ch is an English Derby winner, and Snowfield ;is! by Lackham (Roy Herode) from Snowshoe (Kilbroney) much interest will be taken in the colt when the time comes for him to be paraded for his first race.
