Writing tire 'Whakatane County Council at its' last .meeting the Board in its annual review' stated that iit ! view of still further reduction in the i amount- 5 available for expenditure on highways this year, the Board had decided to adopt the policy v last vear and -confine: any increase in mileage of highways to that due to unavoidable adjustments. This year's annual review therefore, would be restricted to adjustments j in the. Main Highways system, Avhcre such adjustments were found to be necessary or desirable, owing to changes in traffic conditions. This,
covered not only the revocation of a length of existing highway in exchange for a more important road,! but also the. declaration of a short extension of highway or an important connecting link between two highways where special traffic conditions obtained. The Council was asked to advise the Department if it has any recommendations to make. The Council after a brief discussion decided that in view of the present emergency no applications in the meantime though this decision Avould be subject to- later review.
