The trip from the Strand Whakdtane costs the passenger travelling by rail, no less than 2/- each .way, a ridiculous state of af-/ fairs when it is considered that the vehicle used is re-i quired to make the journey irrespective of passengers or not, for the purposes of mails and goods collection. For a four mile trip the cost to each passenger is at the rate of * 6d per mile with no concession for the return trip. Based on the journey to Rotorua by the same means (12/6 for 50 miles) the cost is just a hundred per cent, greater—why ?
