Before commencing the business of the monthly meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council last Monday evening the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, took the opportunity of conveying to the Foreman-Engineer, Mr W. S. Henderson and his wife, the council's congratulations on the distinction earned by their son, Flight Sgt. F. M. Henderson, who recently has been awarded the Distinguished. Flying Medal. Mr Barry said he understood that Flight. Sgt. Henderson was the first Whakatane boy to leave for air force duties overseas. Mr Henderson briefly responded,
