AVRO LANCASTER BOMBER'S
VISIT
CLEAN PATR OF HEELS
After waiting in the streets for nearly an hour yesterday for the purpose of catching a glimpse of the Avro Lancaster bomber (largest British offensive aircraft constructed) hundreds of AVhakataneanx from the business section, had little but a fleeting glimpse of the giant aircraft as it shot low over the cliffs, and disappeared round the rocky buttress sit the entrance of the town. As one man stated fretfully "1 only got a whiff of the exhaust. - '
The aeroplane took dozens by surprise when it leapt the hills from Ohope and did not fly direct over the town. As. a result many were disappointed. In the residential section however quite a good view was obtained as the bomber roared its way across the plains towards llotorua. Leaflets released l'rcm the 'plane fell mainly in Domain Road and Apanui and one which was retrieved wasi brought to the Beacon Office. ft read: — Lord Burghley and the crew of the Lancaster Bomber urge everybody to subscribe to the Third Liberty Loan.
