MEETING IN WHAKATANE
The June meeting of the Whakatanc Women's Institute was lie d on Tuesday in the Methodist Hall. Mrs Stewart presiding over more than 70 members. The aspirations were read by Mrs Hannah. Correspondence was dealt with, including the reading of a -ellei from the Red Gross, soliciting oilerof hospitality from Institu'.e" members for convalescent U.S.A. stviccmen. An invilalion was receive.l I'vopi Edgecombe Institute to visit then 1 on their -birthday afternoon. The president intimated that nex*' Institute day was servicemen's afternoon, and also asked for (id surprise packets to be brought Uv,r da}', the proceeds to be in aid «>f Blind Institute funds. A most instructive lecture wa. delivered by Mrs Sumner on Vitamin C, stressing its importance In the diet. A song was rendered by Mrs Miller, "Cherry Ripe ' the president complimenting her on her readiness u'ways to o'blige. Four new mem lie rs were received into the Institute. A debate- tooK place during the afternoon, uncle:' the leadership of M:\idami\s Norman and SuLc.ille the sitoj.ect being "Cosmetics and Corsets." the negative team having a well merited win. A demonstration on "hairse.lting' was given in a deft, and capaoie manner by M.s.s Titcima Zinsii. The competitions were, won as under: Re-made garment for Lady Galway Guild, Mrs Stewart 1; Mrs Larson 2. Carrots, Mesdamc.s Hannah and Stewart equal 1; Mesdames Comer and, Crozler equal 2. Flowers, Mrs King J nr. 1; Mrs Sioane 2.
