ZONE K' COMMITTEE BOROUGH AND COUNTY DELEGATES Mr J. L. Burnett presided at : a meeting of Zone 'K' County ; and Borougjh Patriotic Committee held' in the Whakatanc County Council Chambers. A letter from the Secretary of ? ihe Auckland. Provincial Council advlised that an order had been placed with the Food Controller for the following: 50 dozen fruit in tins; 50 dozen coll'ee and milk; 50 dozen Andrew's. Liver Salts; HO 1 dozen barIcy sugars 50 dozen lamb and green . peas; 50 dozen jam; 1 carton chew- 0 ing gum—about (>,OOO slicks. The local secretary, Mr C. G. Lucas, stated that a carton of chewing ..gum, portion of Avhich was to be sent to Opotiki, and. 384 tins of Jamb and green peas had been received. It was for the meeting to decide whether the current pack of ..gift parcels would be commenced with the. articles at present in hand.

The meeting decided that as soon •as all gift parcel commodities hav« been received, committees be advised thereof so that the gift parcel pack may be proceeded with ami that gift parcels be returnable to the County Office within three vc*>U<* of the date of the letter.

It was decided that Mrs Cairns be asked to arrange, for the submission of statistics requested, previously, when the committee avi 11 be happy to give consideration to Ruatahuna's application for a revised quota. It was resol\ r ed that all committees, Avitli the exception of Manawuhe, which had forAvarded its statistics, giA*e urgent attention to 'the preparation of the statistics requested earlier for the information M)f the Quota Committee and compile "tfheir district's statistics .as-follows: (a) No. of Adults. (bj No. of Children under 16 years. (c) No. of Householders. \ Native population statistics to be kept separate from European population statistics. The chairman explained that the reason for keeping the Native population statistics separate from the European population statistics, was -because hitherto the Maori people had been asked to contribute to patriotic quotas on a lower per .head basis than the European population. The reason for this Avas, of course, that the Maori people had -other calls on their purses for Maori patriotic purposes which npplied *on',y to the Maori people. Welfare Committee •fi A letter from the Opotiki Zone •executive requested that the folloAVing resolution be submitted to In:terzones:—• "That the Zone views; with alarm \ the tAA'o large Avelfare grants recently made and is of the opinion that the Whakatane and Opotik? Welfare Committees should authorise every Avelfare payment in their respective areas—that all Avelfare payments in excess of £20 be subject to the prior approval of this

Zone."

The meeting thereupon set up a Welfare Committee members of which "were Mrs Sullivan and the •chairman with Messrs Barry, Murray the President and Secretary ex 'officio of the R.S.A., with whom will be associated as a committee member the delegate from the district from which the welfare application emanates. ft was decided

that the committee quorum be a .majority of the members —that district welfare committees as at present constituted, function as investigating committees, through whom all welfare applications must be made on the prescribed form.
