The death of Mr John George Dockray last Wednesday evening, came as a great shock to residents in both town and country where, he was particularly well known and had many friends. Mr Dockray who for the past four years has been Rural Mail contractor for the Whakatane Postal district, has fulfilled

a very arduous job during the war years when the R.D. service be.camgf the only remaining distributing medium on the road, following the stricter enforcement of- the petrol' restrictions. fare. As secretary of the Citizens Scout Committee, lie was an assiduous worker and much of the success of the recent rally may be credited, to his application and industry. 'Jack' as lie was popularly known, was a member of the Signalling Section of the Home Guard where his sunny nature once again madet him many J'ricntls. Drawn >n the last ballot, he announced his intention of going to camp should he ever be called upon and for that reason was only ■detained by a last minute appeal lodged by the Chamber of Commerce from official mobilisation. Born in Dumfrieshirc, Scotland, forty years ago he. came to this country at 'he age of nineteen and quickly adapted himself to colonial conditions. He is survived by his widow and three children, two boys and a girJ. The deepest sympathy will be. extended to his family in the sudden shock of their loss. The funeral will

leave the' Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. to-dav (Friday) for the. Whakatane, cemetery.
