WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

WHAKATANE MEETING

The May meeting of the Institute was held in the Methodist Hall, Mrs Stewart presiding, Forty-seven members were present. The aspirations, were read by Mrs Grozier, and the. report on the Gouneil meeting was read.

Mrs Clark, of Waimana, who is at present an inmate of the hospital, was a visitor to the meeting, having been brought down for the after-

noon by a member

Mrs Miller's first aid lecture on "Ethics of Home Nursing" dealt with 'the. bed,' in which demonstrated methods of changing bed linen with a minimum of inconvenience to the patient.

Mrs Mulholland, assisted by Mrs

Crozier, gave a demonstration on

loose covers, humpties, etc

Thc roll call "Home. Renovation ilints" proved rather unproductive, mertibers in the main acclaiming the virtues of the paint brush.

A song by the Glee Club "Schuberts. Cradle Song" met with wcll-

merited applause

This year's arrangements for the

sending of soldiers' parcels were discussed, and tentative .suggestions received re the, collection of the contents of these parcels.

Two new members avcre received. Leaders were arranged I'or a debate to take place at. the June meeting.

Competitions were ' won as follows: Jam tarts, Mrs Cairns 1; Mrs King Snr. 2. Kumeras Mrs King 1; Mrs Hannah 2.
