ELECTRICITY SHORTAGE
WARNING TO BOROUGH
EFFECT OF RATIONING
The possibility of electrical power being rationed in the near future was discussed by the Borough Council at its last meeting Avhen the Mayor reported briefly on a conversation he had had with the Dis-
Jot" Controller, Mr A. Dicker
Mr Barry said lie gathered, that there Avas every possibility of the power being rationed in future, and the Council could do A*ery little to meet the position as it Avas direct-
ly in the hands of the consumers to help themselves by economising voluntarily. Tin the event of there being no response, from the consumers in this direction the rationing basis would be enforced by law.
Mr Barry said the Borough Couru cil could of course conserve the street lighting, but. this did not assist to any great extent, as the greatest draw was from radiators. The new regulations forbidding the use of radiators between the house of 4 and- fi p.m. would be enforced if need, be by the Borough inspectors. Cr Canning asked why it- would not be possible if power was in short supply to draw from the plant at the Wliakatane Paper Mills.
