DEHYDRATED MEAT

A brief statement regarding meat dehydration, in reply to an inquiry from the Auckland Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union (Mr A. E. Robinson) was received from the Minister og Agriculture, Hon. J. G. Barclay, at the. monthly meeting of the executive on April 21st.

The Minister said that the dehydration plant at Fci'ldlng hatl now readied the stage of commercial production. The basis, of operations in New Zealand would have to be determined by the requirements of the British Government, but there was no reason why private organisations should not establish plants for commercial post-.war purposes. The letter added: "The difficulty, it appears, is that there is no suitable meat available other than that which is already specified by the Ministry of Food to be utilised in dehydration."
