FOOD AND PRICES The conditions of the pig industry were the subject of a further discussion at the monthly meeting of the Auckland Proivncial Executive of the New Zealand. Farmers' Union on April 21. A Northern King Country remit a/Tirmed the view that the price now paid for pigs was entirely uneconomic and that the price, of food was too high to> allow of any in-" crease in the production of pig meat. lit was suggested that an in-i crease of a penny a pound for pig meat was necessary to maintain the present volume of production. A Whangarei resolution also expressed a desire for a reduction in the price of pig food by making it available in Norlh Auckland at prices ruling at ports of entry. The president said that it had. been suggested that the (Jove.rnment might grant a pig food subsidy of £1 a ton. It had agreed to the pricc of bacon pigs being increased by a half-penny a pound.
