At the meeting of the Whakatane County Council a special vote of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the late Mr C. R. Goo-ch. Friends of Pte J. 11. Barr, of Whakatane,, will be pleased to note that he was amongst the Prisoners of War exchanged by mutual agreement between the. British and Il ab ian Governments. He arrived in England last week and is apparently fit and well. Amongst the. prisoners of war repatriated from Italy recently under the exchange of personnel arrangement, was another local man in the person of Pte T. Paul, son of Mr and Mrs W. Paul of Poroporo, who was a member of the Maori Battalion.
