ANNUAL MATATA MEETING
The Mataia Women's Institute held its annual meeting ill the Parish Hall. Mrs Magee' presided over a fair attendance oi' members. The meeting opened with the reading by the members of the Aspirations after which the business, was dealt with. This included, the nomination of delegates to attend the annual executive meeting to be. held at Opotiki. It was, decided to make' the April meeting Grandmother's Day, the grandmothers of the institute to conduct the meeting and provide, the entertainment for the afternoon. The result of the competitions were as follows: Thrift article, Mrs H. Withy 1; Mrs Smith 2. Best (lower, Mrs Smith 1; Miss Burt 2: Mrs Ansell 3. Plum jam, Mrs Magee 1; Miss Burt 2. After the business: of the meeting was concluded the officers for the ensuing year were, elected: President, Mrs H. Withy; secretary, Miss M. Burt (re-elected); treasurer, Miss D. Topp. Mrs H. Withy as Voluntary Organiser, spoke of the work of the Institutes referring to the progress made:-despite the difficulties of war conditions and the efforts aehie.veil in regard, to knitting, parcels and comforts for the. soldiers. A dainty afternoon tea was, provided by the members and the singing of the National Anthem brought a successful meeting to a close. The points, prizes for the year were, as follows: Cooking, Mrs H. Withy and Mrs Ansell (tied) 1. Best flower. Miss Burt and Mrs Bagley (tied) 1; Mrs Ansell 2.
