APRIL MEETING
XJic April meeting of. the Wliakatanc Women's Institute Avas, held in the Methodist Hall, Mrs Stewart presiding over a fair attendance. Mrs Miller read the aspirations, and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and. confirmed. Mesdames Zinsli and Mulholland were appointed delegates to the Federation meeting. Mrs Stewart then gave her report, on the Dominion Council meeting. During the afternoon Mrs Guest gave a talk on the groAving of chry-> santhemums, with brief points- to he observed, on the raising of the different, varieties. A very interesting lecture on "Ethics of Home Nursing" wasi given by the Matron of the Whakatane Hospital. Mrs Miller pleased her audience very much with a song. The roll call followed, this month's being gardening queries. The president gave a .demonstration on the growing of indoor bulbs, and members inspected some of these already growing. Competitions were won as under j Onions, Mrs: Miller 1; Mrs Brown 2. Best double ilower, Mrs, Brown 1; Mrs Hannah 2. Autumn tints, Mrs Prideaux 1; Mrs Mulholland 2. Points prize for the year, Mrs Norman 1; Mrs Stewart 2. Vegetables and ilower points for the. year, Mrs Hannah. An attractive afternoon tea was served, and the singing of the National Anthem concluded the afternoon. MEETING AT TANEATUA The monthly meeting of the Taneatua Women's Institute, was held on April 13 th with Mrs Gardner presiding over a good attendance. Aspirations were read by Mrs Frost. The business of the meeting followed. Interesting talks on the. gardening circle were given by visiting members, Mrs Wylde and Mrs Stew-i art. Mrs Frost, gave a demonstration on bouquet making, which was well received. An enjoyable, piano solo was played by Mrs Peebles. A new- member, Mrs Doran, was welcomed. A dainty afternoon tea was then served by Mesdames Merrie, Adams and Frost, after which the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. Competitions were as follows:— Three, onions, Mrs Merrie 1; Mrs Adams 2. Gooseberry jam, Mrs Moore. 1: Mrs Merrie 2; Best ilower. Miss Hills 1 and 2. EDGECUMBE MEETING The monthly meeting of-thc Edgecumbe. Women's Institute was. held on Tuesday last, Mrs Hodsotr siding and there was a good attend-* ance. The meeting opened, with the singing of the Ode to Friendship and the Aspirations were read by Mrs, Hodson. After routine business had been dealt with Mrs CJv Irving read a paper on "Food Substitutes in Wartime Diet.'' A wall'competition was won by Mrs Irving. A report of the Council meeting held at • Opotiki was read by Mrs; Snelling who was a delegate to the meeting. Mrs Jesperson sang two songs: in her pleasing manner "I'll Pray For You"' and "When They Sound the Last All Clear,' and was heartily applauded. Competition results were: Best potato, Mrs Jesperson 1; Mrs Moody 2; Mrs Robb M. Balaclava, Mrs List 1: Mrs Wilson 2; Mrs Snelling 3. Guinea Mrs Snelling 1; Mrs List *2; Miss Le Lievre 3. Best flower,.Mi' s 'Hodson 1; Mrs Wilson 2; Mrs Lc Lievre 3. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Le Lievre', Mrs Flavel and. Mrs Snelling, hostesses for the day.i The meeting concluded with the National Anthem.
