WAIMANA ACTIVITIES
INSTITUTE MEETING
TWO WORKERS HONOURED
The monthly meeting of the Wai-Xnana-Nukuhou Women's Institute was held in the Waihana Hall last /Wednesday afternoon. There, was a good attendance of members, Mrs Hewitt presided. It being "Members' Day'' Mrs John Addison and Mrs McConnell Snr. provided thp entertainment for the afternoon, at the conclusion of the business. The .Women's Institute song was sung and Mrs Hewitt read the motto "Look Forward With Hope.'' 'Remits for the annual Federation meeting were discussed and the delegates instructed how to vote. The delegates elected to attend the meeting which will be held, in Opotild, were Mrs Hewitt and Mrs Clark. Mrs I. Savage had charge of the talent competition which realised £2 5s lid from 2s in the past year. Several letters were read by members from soldiers overseas, who had received parcels etc; from th<j W.I. and patriotic parcels, the gifts be- , ing much appreciated. Members donated 2s each towards the cony ferenqe pool. Mrs F. Savage in a 'few well chosen words, asked Mrs Hewitt and Mrs Wylde to accept a small gift from the members in appreciation of the Institute work^ during the past year. Both ladies in neat replies thanked all for the gifts, which they said were much appreciated. The day's, competitions were: Best double flower, Mrs J. Mitchell Mrs T. Wardlaw 2; Mrs F. Bell; 3: Best single flower, Mrs Mitchell 1: Miss Mavis Wardlaw 2;. Miss E. Wardlaw 3. Best vegetable, Mr? Hewitt 1; Mrs. Wylde 2; Mrs Stan?bury 3. Jar of peach jelly, Mr? Wylde 1; Mrs. T. Wardlaw 2; Mrs I. Savage 3. Pair sox knitted from Patriotic wool, Mrs McConnell 1" Mrs Gallagher 2; Mrs I. Savage S. The singing of the National Anthem the meeting. * W.W.S.A. ANNUAL MEETING The. annual meeting of the• "\yaixnana branch of the W.W.S.A. wa? held in the Waimana Hall recentlyMrs H. Wardlaw presided; Mrs J. Wardlaw read the minutes and presented a report on past activities of the auxiliary. Mechanics lectures were held, and four out of the fiv** members who took the examination, passed. Members had taken First Aid and Home Nursing lectures and 100 per cent passes were received in all examinations, as a result o" this a'branch of the St. John's Nursing Division has been formed. Four girls for the Air Force, four for the Army and four land girls. Ushave recruited 'with the local W.W.S.A. Members decided to continue, making camouflage nets. Members who liave gained the St. John medallion will be .presented with same: by M«\ Carling at a later date at a suitable function. The election of officers for ensuing year followed. President. Mrs H. Wardlaw, re-elected and Mr* J. Wardlaw, secretary, re-elected, committee, Mrs E. P. Woolfield. Mrs C. Wylde, Mrs Gallagher, Mrs White. The meeting closed Avith a hearty j vote of thanks to the president. ST. JOHN'S NURSING DIVISION •' .. The fortnightly meeting of the * St. John's Nursing Division Avas held last Tuesday afternoon, when Nurso McKay occupied the chair. A donation of £3 3s had been forwarded the Whakatane branch towards the annual appeal and it was decided to send produce into Wliaka-* tane on the 16th April for a stall, which is being held on that date to
raise funds. Mrs Hooper gave a report on the results of a stall being held in the Waimana Domain recently, to raise funds, for the Division and £10 15s 4%d resulted. Nurse McKay asked questions on the previous Home Nursing lectures. Afternoon tea Avas the a served by Mrs King and Mrs H. Wardlaw, which .closed the meeting.
