WHAKATANE TOURNAMENT An interesting tournament on the Whakatane greens over the weekend resulted in a play-off for Arthur King by a broad score of 12 points to 3 against Loane the winner of Section A. Teams participating came from Whakatane, Te Puke, Rotorua and Taneatua Clubs. Details of the play were as under:— A Section: Grace. Shapley and Marsh 26 beat Riddel 1, Loane, Calling and Creeke 9. McKenzie, McLeod, Chamberlain and Howat 24 beat Mcintosh, Henderson, Francis and Littlejohn 15. Taylor, Allen, Bridger and Caisley 23 beat Topp, Smith, Otley and Hollis 18. J. Bell, Buckman and Wakefield 22 beat Wilson, Baker and Bell 12. Head, Berg and Drube 20 beat Murphy, Bell and Alexander 17. Novelty Tournament A Novelty Tournament, will be held to-morrow, Saturday, 17 April, commencing at 1.15 p.m. CONTESTS AT TANEATUA FERGUSON AND FORBES CUPS In the Champion of Champions contest at Taneatua on Saturday last between the champ jjlayers of the two Opotiki, Taneatua and Whakatane Clubs some interesting play took place before a considerable "gal-, le.ry of spectators. In the initial games Young (Opotiki Club) beat Lawn (Taneatua) by 23-18. Stevens. (Opotiki Citizens) beat King (Whakatane) 21-il4/. In the play-off Stevens beat Young 17-13 and once again the coveted tropjiy returned to - the. Opotiki stronghold.
For the Forbes Cup the Opotiki players again proved themselves too strong. The play was keen and with, the greens in good condition reasonably fast. Details were: —• Ist Round: Rathie, Morris, Frew ami Jeplison (Opotiki Citizens) 20 beat Burgess, Pearson, Currah and Melisaac (Whakatane) 17. 2nd Round: Mavsdcn, Fox, Hunt and Rae (Taneatua) 20 beat McCowan, Edwards. Headley and Burrett (Opotiki) 13. Final: Rathie, Morris, Frew and Jephson 16 beat Marsden, Fox, Hunt and, Rae 11.
