AREA EXTENDED
PONGAKAWA RABBIT BOARD* ;
PART RANGITAIKI INCLUDED
At the April meeting of the Pongakawa Rabbit Board it was decideijin view of tlie recent representor?) tions to include parts of the Rangitaiki ar&i •within the boundaries off the Board's activities. Correspondence was read regard- - ing the proposed boundaries; of the Rangitaiki area and a :lengtliy dis-v cussion ensued. Mr Watt was strong- : lv of the opinion that a considerable area to the south of the boundary as at. present proposed should be included. Parts of. this area are, infested with rabbits and would be ' better under the control of the than left to be a continual menace to the East Coast Rabbit Board to the east and the Pongakawa RatH bit Board to the north. The. matter was finally referred, to Messrs. French, Watt and Davies as a subcommittee which later reported with a recommendation that most of the additional area under discussion be included in the proposed Rangitaikicxtension. This recommenation tvas adopted. The chairman pointed out tliat the undertaking given-to the Ran.-; gitaiki deputation to rate, their area not higher than Id per acre was in respect of the area practically free of rabbits; and that if the area to the south now proposed to be."in-, clud.cfcl . cost' more than that! ittt work it would have to be made subject to a higher rate.
