SHOOTING SEASON

AMMUNITION SHORTAGE

SHARING WITH- OTHERS

Advice that in view of. the approaching shooting season, the coun oil of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society is trying to arrange for some ammunition to be available for all intending liccnse-holders has been received by the hon. secretary of the Wailii Acclimatisation Club, Mr A. H. Sparks, from the secretary to the society, Mr Colin M. Gordon. "The Government has already announced that no further supplies will be released, but it is well-known that many sportsmen have more than' enough for their own use,'' states the communication. "In particular, Service men oh .leave and American troops will not have cartridges, but numbers of. them will purchase licenses if cartridges are made available; and the council has their needs in mind. The added revenue will also help in pheasant liberations. Would, you get in touch with shooters in your district and find out which of them have surplus ammunition which they Avould sell to others less fortunate? When you have got the names and quantities, you will then be in a position to send prospective license-holders without ammunition to prospective vendors to make thei'r own arrangements regarding price. It would be as well to acquaint your local license selling agent with the names and quantities so that applicants can be. directed there as well. "If your club would rather purchase the surplus ammunition and resell to license-holders desiring it, then this course can be adopted. The main thing is to get a pool going now (similar to the Huntlv club, which has 1000 rounds in hand) for intending purchasers of licenses who have no cartridges. . . The council believes each sub-society will get a better response than the parent body as sportsmen in a district may help others in that district, whereas they would neglect a wider appeal."
