LYCEUM CLUB!

FINAL SOCIAL AFTERNOON

RECESS FOR DURATION

A most enjoyable afternoon was spent by' members of the Lyceum Club at. their room last Friday as a final windup of the club's; activities. It •will be remembered that at the annual general meeting it was decided that owing to petrol strictions and the pressure of war work that the club should go into recess, for the duration of. the. war. A committee was elected to act. as trustees and also as an organising committee for the reforming of the club at such time as may be decided after the. war. It was decided that a number of patchwork quilts which had been made by the Sewing Circle during the year should be equally distributed, between the Church of England and Presbyter-i ian Orphanages. _ A most entertaining programme was arranged by Mrs Littlejohn and Mrs Cairns who Avere responsible for the organising of. the afternoon. The play enacted was. entitled "Even Exchange" and the cast was as follows: Andy -Paige, Mrs Dawson; EfTie Paige, Mrs Moriec*; Mrs Winslow, Mrs Lucus. Other items during the afternoon were: Solos, Mrs Norman Carter (accompanist Mrs E. Armstrong); recitations, Mrs E. Armstrong and Mrs Hepburn. A special competition was won bj- Mrs L. King while Mrs Conolly read, a very interesting letter from her husband. Major Conolly, on the Feast of the Passover at which festival he was fortunate enough to be present. Mrs Morice on behalf of the club, presented bouquets to Mrs Spence and Mrs Thomas, president and secretary respectively, and expressed the club's thanks and appreciation of the good work they had performed over the past two years. The afternoon closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
