THREE SPORTS MEETINGS
PATRIOTIC sports meetings and gymkhanas are to-day in the ascendent throughout the: Bay of Plenty, and the Whakatane district is certainly enjoying a surfeit of such fixtures at the present time. In the immediate offing we« have Taneatua (Saturday, April 17th), Ruatoki (Easter Monday, April 26th) and Awakeri (Saturday, May Ist). The programmes in all instances promise a wealth of entertainment and a wide variety of mounted, foot and nov-' city events. The unqualified success of the Waimana gathering has no doubt given a fillup to this method of raisins: funds to meet the Patriotic quota but we trust that even when it is no longer necessary to meet such quotas., the sports meetings will remain as annual fixtures, providing a permanent stimulous to physical sport and healthycompetition and cementing still more, firmly that splendid community spirit which is so strong throughout this disr trict.
