THOUGHTS THAT ELEVATE

THE BROWN JiUG Some one had made a mistake and had put the brown jug with the glass vases and fancy flower jugs. He felt terribly out of place, especially when a silence fell on his new companions, and thej r looked rather vexed and haughty. He knew what they were thinking and couifl almost hear them saying among themselves "What a cheek! Fancy putting a common brown jug us. He hasn't any shape. to> speak of and he isn't even modern." The little brown jug sighed and two tears trickled down his fat, shiny cheeks. For a long time lie remained in this strange company; then suddenly there was a bustle of excitement and every one stood straight and tall and still. A person had come into the room with a bijg bunch of flowers, and her face was so flushed and her eyes so biiight that any one could see the flowers gave her great pleasure. Of course, one of the best cut-glass vases would be chosen, for flowers were such a luxury these days; yet to the surprise of all, especially the little brown jug, the person pounced upon it. "The very thing," she cricd. "The other vases are far too smart for these bonny things; marigolds, | snapdragons, .cornflowers, mignonette, canterbury bells and. daisies. Why they'll 100k —well—themselves in this, dear old brown jug." The brown jug beamed. He was needed at last, and that was all he I cared about.
